UBI to add 2500 ATMS by 2012

Madurai: Union Bank of India said it will increase the number of its Automatic Teller Machine(ATM) outlets to 5,000 from the present 2,500 before March 2012. Additionally, five 'Banks of the future'-fully automated branches, would be set up in Tamil Nadu, bank's General Manager (Alternate Channels and New Initiative Department) Lalit Sinha said.While addressing a press conference here last night he said “50 per cent of the transactions in 2010-11, were done through Electronic Mode, up from 35 per cent two years back and this would be increased to 60 per cent and the bank is working in that direction for now."

UBI had introduced cashless transactions in Madhya Pradesh and one million online transactions were made in the last nine months. Internet account users were satisfied with the performance of the internet banking service, he said. Also, UBI has plans to strengthen its call centres in order to offer better service to customers. He further said the bank had won ACI excellence award 2011, for the Project, "Customer empowerment using ACI solutions BASE 24" in the payment transformation category.
