Vijaya Bank to open 100 branches

State-owned Vijaya Bank plans to open 100 more branches during the next financial year, a top bank official said today.

The bank, with 1,282 branches, would add another 18 by the end of this fiscal and another 100 by the next fiscal, Vijaya Bank Chairman and Managing Director H S Upendra Kamath told reporters here.

As part of the expansion plan, 12-15 branches would be opened in the Coimbatore region next fiscal, Kamath said here while inaugurating the bank's second regional branch in Tamil Nadu.

The Bank has a total business of Rs 1,38,000 crore, of which Rs 56,000 crore constituted advances and remaining deposits.

The Bank has been allotted 408 villages under financial inclusion programme, of which 397 villages, barring 11, in the North East have already been covered.

Stating that the bank has extended loans to the tune of Rs 17,500 crore in the priority sector, of which Rs 7,000 crore were given to MSMEs and Rs 6,500 crore to Agriculture, he said Rs 4,100 crore were given to housing sector and Rs 720 crore towards education loans.

For security matter, in view of recent robberies such as the recent one in Chennai, Kamath said installing CCTVs in all the branches are capital-intensive and would be done in a phased manner.
